To easily determine where to place a nail or hanging device for a picture frame, make this simple hanging tool. Use a piece of wood about 1/4" thick and 6" in length. You may need it to be a little longer for a very large frame. Grab a nail large enough to go through the wood and extend out the other end to hold the wire or string of the frame (a large head nail is best). Pound the nail through the wood about 1" from the bottom of the wooden piece. Hang the frame on the nail and either push against the picture approximately where the nail is, or hold the wood against the wall, remove the frame and push in on the nail head. A small indentation will be on the wall to mark the location for the hanging nail/device.
