    Picture frame hanger

To easily determine where to place a nail or hanging device for a picture frame, make this simple hanging tool. Use a piece of wood about 1/4" thick and 6" in length. You may need it to be a little longer for a very large frame. Grab a nail large enough to go through the wood and extend out the other end to hold the wire or string of the frame (a large head nail is best). Pound the nail through the wood about 1" from the bottom of the wooden piece. Hang the frame on the nail and either push against the picture approximately where the nail is, or hold the wood against the wall, remove the frame and push in on the nail head. A small indentation will be on the wall to mark the location for the hanging nail/device.

    Slate polisher

I use WD-40 on the job to polish slate on fireplace surrounds. Slate often dulls and will polish up for several months with a little WD-40.

Fiberglass - take the itch out

If you need to do any insulating with itchy fiberglass insulation, here's a tip that will make the job easier. Wear long sleeves whenever possible. I know it can be hot up in the attic, especially in the summer. If possible, insulate in the morning when it is cooler. But, most importantly, sprinkle some baby powder on your arms, neck and any other part of your body that is exposed to help stop the itch. With gloves and a mask, you should be ready to go.

    Hang pictures without splitting walls!

To hang a picture and keep the wall from splitting, you can either heat the nail or screw OR place a piece of masking tape over the area where the nail or screw will go into the wall. Or, to be extra sure, try both!

    Roofing Cleanup

Being in the roofing business, we are always getting asphalt on tools, floors, cars and many other surfaces. Simply spray WD-40 on the mess and wipe it clean with a dry cloth. No residue, no stain, no pain, just a nice clean surface.

    Rake Cutting

I have found that the most eye-appealing look to a nice gable roof is the straightness of the shingles along the drip edge. When laying shingle down in place, take a utility blade and wrap an arm underneth the shingle, near the soffit and place a straight blade at the top of the shingle along the D-edge. Then with a little muscle power, pull the blade through the asphalt shingle and cut it staight and crisp with the edging. The drip edge will guide your blade straight and will leave a professional look to the gable end of your house.

Vacuum cleaners fix PVC pipe leak

    Friday, June 25, 2010, 5:21 PM
    Posted By: WD-40 Job Site

When a PVC joint leaks, depressurize the line and attach a vacuum source to an opening as close to the leak as possible. Turn the vacuum on to suck air in through the leak with all other openings plugged. Take a little PVC cleaner and let the vacuum suck some into the leak. Then let the vacuum run for a minute to dry the cleaner. Then, suck a little PVC cement into the leak. Turn off the vacuum to let the plug cure for a few minutes and test the system for leakage.
